Pender EMS & Rescue Inc. Public Relations & PIER Program
Pender EMS & Rescue Inc. has a public relations {PIER} program established to assist the general public in learning more about us and the services that we provide. Emergency Medical Services are highly visible and therefore an influential organization. The individual EMS members are playing an increasingly important role in shaping the public’s image of their EMS service. That is where PIER comes into play. “PIER” is an acronym for Public Information, Education and Relations in EMS. The Pender EMS & Rescue PIER program is to educate the community concerning general health issues they may have. We schedule numerous events throughout the year targeting issues of public health and EMS education. We visit schools and speak to the kids of the community, let them tour our emergency units, and answer questions they may have about emergency services. Several times a year we sponsor mock DUI scenarios. These are dramatizations of high school students being killed due to drinking and driving. Even though these scenarios are acted out, this allows the students to witness how we perform and see how drinking and driving can lead to tragic consequences for all of the family members and friends involved. To schedule a public event or to have someone speak to your organization please contact Pender EMS & Rescue Inc.
Past Events:
Pender EMS PR
Team has done a lot of event with the local BSA and
Cub Scouts Troops. We feel this is a great Public
Relation because we get the young people to
participate and learn about safety and EMS. One such
even rained out, was a "Mock MVC". This event was to
teach kids the dangers of Drinking and Driving and
what emergency crews {EMS, Rescue, Fire, LEO &
Airlink} do on the scene of a bad accident. We had
planned to have over 200 scouts participate but due
to the weather, we had to postpone the event. No new
date has been set.
Another event
that Pender EMS PR Team has done was to teach Cub
Scouts first aid. We have taught a total of 3 scout
troops {about 75 kids} about first aid, what to do
in an emergency and helped them make their own small
little first aid kits. Many of the scouts were able
to get their Emergency Safety patch for these
classes. We are also planning to do a CPR course for
the Scout Leaders in the near future {date not
set}.
Pender EMS has
also participated in several school Job Fairs. We
had a lot of kids asking questions about EMS and
becoming a Paramedic. This was a great fun-filled
event for the schools and the EMS crews.
