General Statement of Job
Assisting and bringing skills usually seen within the hospital to those in need of medical help outside of a hospital setting is the very definition of paramedicine. As a paramedic, you have a small amount of time to meet the patient, who is in distress, gain their complete confidence, assess and treat the patient, and transport them to a medical facility. Thus, as a paramedic, you will provide direct patient care to sick and injured patients in all age groups, from newborns to the elderly. As an advanced life support provider, you must utilize all aspects of the primary and secondary survey to manage a developmentally appropriate plan of care for each patient, evaluate the patient’s response, and coordinate care effectively. You will be responsible for performing in accordance with established emergency medical procedures and techniques, but must also exercise considerable independent judgment in the assessment and treatment of your patients.
